Has anyone tried to buy a discount wedding dress on line? if so how did it work out? I have found a dress that I love but can't find one like it anywhere locally and am tempted to buy it on line. Please help me I need opinions.

By the way the dress would cost 138 dollars plus shipping so if it is awful it isn't a big loss.

If you can stand to do it and lose the money then go for it.

Only thing I would caution you about is if it is a company from overseas. Those places almost never make the dress you see in the picture, and the quality is horrible. If you have a link to your dress, we could tell you if it is a company from China.

But like I said, if you can stand to lose the money....

It sounds like one of those foreign company rip offs.

You couldn't find a dress for that money here in the US except maybe target.com.

I would be very wary. Since they probably don't allow any returns. Definitely use a credit card, so you can dispute the charges if they don't deliver. Read the sizing charts very carefully.

Personally, I wouldn't do it, I just couldn't throw that money out the window, but hey, its a free country! Good luck! Let us know what you decide to do.

If you can lose the money, go for it. I got mine from Hong Kong for $110. It was exactly as it was in the picture and fit like a dream besides having to be hemmed (apparently I would be short even in Hong Kong! lol).

I treated it as I would going to a store, I asked the seller a ton of questions, I emailed his customers asking for them share their experiences and hopefully a picture of their dress (a few did send photos) so I could see the real quality of his work.

I also did this thru ebay and I have a paypal account so I do have limited protection if something were to have gone wrong.

I picked a vendor that sold ONLY wedding dresses so I knew his feedback wasn't from a bunch of random junk he was sellling. I read EVERY comment (which took awhile) from every customer.

I was happy myself. The dress cost me $110 and people were guessing at the wedding I had to have spent at least $2k on it.

I would caution this doesn't work this way for everyone.

Just if you do this give yourself plenty of time and treat it like you would any other store purchase. Treat it like shopping for a car. You don't just go onto the lot, pick one and drive off.

You ask questions and do homework till you are satisfied.

I had 2 years before the wedding when I ordered my dress and I could easily afford to lose $110.

Bridal gowns here cost so much b/c they are exchanged thru so many hands. Does anyone honestly think wedding dresses are made here in the US? Most come from Hong Kong or China.

It's up to you. I had a very pleasant experience and ended up with a lovely dress, but I was also prepared to eat the costs and had time to remedy the situation if it did not work out.

There is a lot of detailed on the skirt that you miss in the photos. The skirt was much more detailed in person.

However as you can tell the dress in the ebay photo is the exact same one I am wearing. There is no difference at all besides length.

Thank you for your comments. I think i will probably try it. It is very hard to find someone to order me a silver dress and I have my heart set on a silver dress. I am a plus size and the online dresses seem to come in all sizes not so in the bridal shops.

He was a private vendor from Hong Kong that sold only wedding dresses. I know that's rather vague, but it's a place to start if you want to see if he is still on ebay.

Hi. I am contemplating an order from A Light in the Box. Most of their designs are exclusively theirs, so, in spite of being a Chinese company, you get something quite similar to what you see from what I understand. I have heard good things about this company. They sell a few knock-offs as well, but they are easy to spot. Their dresses are often rated.
I am wondering if anyone has dealt with this company or has considered it?

Of course they have different sizes which they list in inches - USA, EURO, Chinese, etc. They may do custom work as well; I'm not certain.

crystalsong: i ordered my dress from lightinthebox (see my other reply on this post for pics) and was very pleased.my dress fit very well and i just went with a standard size.they do great work,and my dress is very good quality. i absolutely love my dress and have no complaints.i also ordered a petticoat from the same site,and plan to order gloves and possibly somemore excessories from them.some of the pictures on their site you cant see fine detail in though. there was some detail in my dress that i couldnt see from the pictures,but it looked even better in person.
