My cousin is getting married at the beginning of August.  I am so excited for her, we're the only girls in the family and are more like sisters than cousins.  She was just in my wedding, and I am thrilled to be a part of hers.

I just found out that I am pregnant.  I am due to give birth at the beginning of July.  I have absolutely NO idea what my body is going to be like a month after delivery.  Of course I am going to want to be back to pre-pregnancy, but I don't have any clue as to what I am ACTUALLY going to look like?  It could definitely affect her choice in what the dress looks like, and what size I am going to have to order.  Any suggestions???

So happy to be his Mrs!

Congratulations!!

I haven't been in your exact situation, but one of the coworkers was recently. Her major gripe about the situation was that the bridal shop insisted that she order her dress four sizes bigger than she was because the wedding was a couple months after she was due. It ended up costing her a ton of money because it swam on her and she needed major alterations. Yikes.

Most bridesmaid dresses don't need to be ordered until 8-12 weeks before the wedding. Put off ordering your dress until you get further along and have a sense of how your pregnancy is going, weight-wise. Try to steer your cousin towards choosing dresses that are forgiving to the belly area and remember that your bust will likely be bigger, especially if you breastfeed. And find a steamstress who can do alterations on short notice, as it will do no good to try on your dress when you're 9 months along.

Congratulations! You are like me...I found out 4 days after the wedding. Ha ha.

Ariel is definitely right about the breast size, if you breastfeed. I will tell you that I am shocked at how fast my boobs grew. I was a 36 C and by the time I was 8 weeks I measure a 36 E. Talk about a shocker.

But every body's different. I noticed in your wedding pics that you posted that you seem to be in pretty good shape. Most likely you will be able to lose a pretty good portion of that weight in a month if you stay in shape. I would definitely think the hips area would be the hardest to lose, so you may want to consider that.

Will she let you chose a dress off the rack? That way you could get it closer to the wedding.

Or I would try empire waist dresses. You could get away with a slightly larger size than you need and still look fine b/c of the cut of the dress. I think that would be the best option all around. You could try on dresses according to your boob size then, (b/c if you breastfeed you'll still have them) and leave some extra room in the stomach, but you may end up losing most of that.

Remember though, it's easier to let a dress out than in. So if anything, go up a couple of sizes. Good luck!

PS when are you due? My date's May 5th.

(Sorry to hijack, but...)

Misma, if you're having trouble finding bras that fit, Lane Bryant's bra line Cacique starts at 36 and has the bigger cup sizes - AND every year they go on sale significantly marked down online the day after Thanksgiving (like buy 2, get 2 free plus free shipping - they're regularly $34-$38 each). No guarantees what the sale will be this year, I guess, but still may be worth checking out. I'm in the "bigger than DD" club and I had the worst time finding bras (especially cute ones!) until a Lane Bryant display caught my eye a few years back. I don't know how I survived before!

My date in July 6th....but we'll see!!!  SO exciting!!  My first pregnancy!  We just got married 6 weeks ago and had no clue it would happen so fast!  We were prepared to try for a year (or more!) before we actually got pregnant.  We're still in the "risky" 1st trimester though, so I will be much more at ease once we get past that milestone :)

I guess I'll just have to see what my cousin has in mind...if she chooses an empire waist, that will be really good for me.  I'll just chat with her about it, see what can be done! :)

So happy to be his Mrs!

Try for July 8th - my b-day. :-)

I know what you mean. I was freaking until the 8th week when I got to have an ultrasound. (I only had one b/c I had some bleeding.) Try not to stress too much though - MUCH easier said than done. DH hasn't shown any amount of stress while I was terrified something was going to happen.

I'm much better at 14 weeks now though. I still don't feel too hot, especially today.

I will say don't freak tho if you feel crampy. Sometimes you are dehydrated and a lot of water helps, sometimes you just feel crampy. I freaked a lot over any amount of crampiness for awhile, and every time I felt anything was in the bathroom. Don't be overcompulsive like me. LOL

Keep us posted. I joined a baby site, but can't figure out how to use their message boards really well, so I'm sticking here for now.

Ariel, thanks. I ended up going to a maternity store and buying nursing bras b/c they have more coverage too. That's actually where I got measured. I need more tho. I only got one in case I grew some more - thankfully I don't think I have yet.

I really hope I don't grow that extra shoe size a lot of women do. I'm already an 11.

LoL, I will try for July 8th!!  Actually, one of my girlfriends from high school is due on MY birthday this year!!  We'll see, it's only about 3 weeks away for her!!  SO exciting!!

I actually did have some cramping last night and I was freakin out about it, it kept waking me up from my sleep.  But all is good so far, I've got such a long way to go!!  But first appt with the doc is in 3 weeks, so I am really looking forward to that!!!  I think I'm trying to stay positive, we are just so thrilled to be having a baby, we both have wanted it for SO long.

Which baby site did you join?

I'm kind of hoping I DO gain a shoes size, I am a size 5, and it is SO hard to find shoes!!  I think a 6 would be so much easier!!!  BUT, all of my shoes are heels!!!  I am so tiny (under 5') that I constantly am trying to add height!  I am going to need to go grab some flats, it's a good thing they are in style right now!!!
So happy to be his Mrs!

Yay, congrats!  You and Misma didn't waste any time.

I've never been pregnant so I can't speak from personal experience.  However, both of my sisters have a kid.  One sister, who was always fit gained a ton of weight during her pregnancy and ended up about 30 pounds heavier than she originally was.  Her daughter is 2 1/2 now and she's still over her inital weight.  My other sister was  always over weight but she didn't gain very much weight at all and ended up weighing 25 pounds LESS than her original weight within a couple of weeks after her daughter was born.

Moral of the story, its really hard to know.  Every person takes it differently.  Like Misma mentioned you seem to be in really good shape so hopefully that will help.  The empire waist is a great idea.   Congrats again!

Afrench, I joined babycenter.com. My screen name there is the same as it is here, I just haven't used it b/c I haven't felt like figuring out their site. I was for a wile going on to all the websites to see where I was at in development - I've slowed down a bit on that though. I get e-mails from babyzone.com too.

Be careful what you read, b/c it makes it seem like NOTHING is good for you sometimes, and can be really depressing. Just use common sense for the most part. But there's also a lot of very good informative stuff out there too.

You could have been having some implantation cramping. You're about 4 weeks right? As long as it does not feel stronger than normal period cramps you should be fine. My first doctor consultation they asked if the cramps were one sided only or went all the way around my belly. If they're one sided too much, that's when they want to make sure it's not ectopic. For me, they felt like they were wrapping all the way around me when I had them. They died down after like the 7th week.

I like the what to expect book. It really calmed me down with a lot of things. It felt like it was aimed at calming me down, instead of listing all the possible known dangers or things that could go wrong, like some websites or other information does.

I think I may take a look at babycenter during lunch to see if I can figure it out.

Let me know if you want to talk. I don't have that many girls that I feel like I can bore to death with this :-) and sometimes just need to vent or whatever. And this site is wedding geared, so while I talk, i don't want to go on and on....but I really like the people here too so it's hard to go somewhere else.

Ok. All done for right now.

Misma, have you tried "thebump.com"?  That's where I have been posting and it seems to be a really good group of people.  They even have the boards divided up into sections, such as 1st trimester, 2nds trimester, 3rd trimester, adoption, baby names, toddlers, working moms, etc.  So you know that no matter which board you post on, everyone that's posting is in the sam eboat you are, probably has the same questions and problems you do.

And thanks for the info on the cramping, that really helps.  And no, I am not noticing it on one side or the other, pretty much just all around, like menstrual cramps.  I seem to have them more at night, luckily I haven't really had to deal with them at work.

I'm always happy to talk!!!  This is my first pregnancy, so I am excited/scared/happy, all at the same time!!  My best friend is a wild child...not even a serious boyfriend, needless to say she doesn't even have marriage on the brain, much less babies!!  And my other best friend lives about 5 hours away from me, so as much as she loves kids and I know would love to be involved, the distance makes it hard.  It is always nice to have other women to talk to who are in the same boat as me...probably what drew me to these boards, as well as the bump boards, in the first place!!

I think I will look into the bump. I was just looking on babycenter...and I don't know. It was a little nervewracking for some reson. There are new responses like every 30 seconds, and it's kind of overwhelming. Everytime I would go to the main page, there would be a bunch of different posts that weren't there before.

Anyway, I'll take a look there tomorrow probably.

BTW, you can take tylonal (sp?) or stuff that uses aectaminophen. No ibuprofin or asprin though. That may help you sleep better, although, I have found that ever since becoming pg, even though I was super tired, until the past week, I woke up several times a night. It sucks. I am sleeping a little better now - as least for the past few days.

So my first dr appt was kind of like a consultation of sorts. If I were you, I would take DH with you and have a list of things to ask. My DH freaked out about how tired I was, had to hear from the dr that he had to change the kitty litter, etc. You probably are already planning on taking him, but just try to remember to have them talk about what you most likely will be expierencing.

I swear DH doesn't get it.

3 weeks ago he said "you need to call your dr and find out why you are so tired." My answer? "Duh, I'm preg." (Well, not that snotty.) HIS response then was, "I've never known any pregnant woman to be as tired as you." Really. How many do you know? Or, more accurately, how many have you lived with and taken an avid interest in their lives?

It's a big adjustment, for both of us. And the guys just don't have the same amount of sympathy that you would think they would have (unless you are one of the lucky ones) cause they don't expierence it themselves.

Then he's always warning me about "watch what you eat, I want you to be healthy and not have a 10 lb baby." WRONG thing to say. My tummy's been ultra sensitive and I eat what will not make me gag.

Ok...I'm sure I have more, but I'll take a breather.

I am definitely taking DH to my first appointment.  In fact, I had it scheduled, and he really wanted to go so I changed the time so that he could come with me.  He works in the grocery industry and is in the store early in the morning, off in the afternoon.  My original appt was at 9, I moved it to 3:00, because he was so excited to go.

While I am VERY lucky and my husband is super supportive and understanding, he just doesn't quite "get" things either!!  He seems to think that things I do now won't really affect my pregnancy.  I have to remind him often that this first trimester, although I am not showing and you can't actually tell I'm preggo, a LOT is going on, there are leaps and bounds of development.  It grows so quickly and everything that I am putting in my body, every little thing affects baby...right now!!  Not just when I show, not just in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters...every stage is equally important.  The organs, the BRAIN, is developing now.  And he thinks that I can't be hungry yet, I can't be gaining weight yet, I can't be having symptoms yet.  Guess what?  The instant I became pregnant my body started to change, hormones started going nuts!!

He'll get it, I just hope it's sooner than later.  And maybe once he goes with me to my first appt, and he actually talks to the doc and sees what is going on inside, he'll connect and he'll feel like it's real.  Right now I kind of feel like he's just looking at his wife...nothing has changed, just the same old wife.  I guess it's hard for them because they don't FEEL differently, like I do.  I feel that something special is going on, not to mention the cramps and the jeans that are too tight and the gas hahaha!!
So happy to be his Mrs!

Yeah, I was super hungry before I even knew I was pg. I thought I was PMSing. My hormones went wild too. And before I even took the test, I had to go pee all the time.

I have to say, I am glad to be getting into the second trimester. I had several days where I felt like complete and total crud, and I was one of the lucky ones who wasn't running to the bathroom every 5 minutes. I had my moments where all day I felt like gagging, but mostly for me it was the bone weary tiredness. That set in right away. I still can't stay up past 9 unless I force myself. My daytime energy has been coming back though. So when your first few weeks get rough, just remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Another funny DH moment. Apparently there is a guy at his work who had a baby 2 years ago, and has now proclaimed to know everything about pg women. So, oh, around week 6 or 7, DH says, you're not supposed to be hormonal until you are about 7 months, that's what Jared said. I think you need to stop reading those baby books b/c you are exagerating everything. Another WRONG thing to say. Now I laugh about it, but at the time I was so p!ssed. Oh, and I shouldn't be going pee that much, either. (It's normal early, your kidney's start preparing to work for two.) Casey said she didn't until the 3rd trimester.

Men. However if there's one thing they should know, don't tell a pg woman she is not supposed to be hormonal yet. :-)

BTW, about your issue with your DH and the first trimester. Let him know that the most crucial development is until...I think like week 10 or so. So that is the time that you need to be really careful about what you do. Although they do say that if you miscarry, there is nothing you can do about it. Most of the time, it is because the number of chromosones wasn't right.

Anyway, besides how much development is going on, your body is trying to get used to all this. And that knocks you on your butt.

Congrats!!! So happy for both of the new brides that will be new moms soon. Dont forget to start your new ticker to count down the days, dont forget to educate yourself about being a momma as you did a bride, remember your intuition, and dont forget your groom/husband...
This is really new to him and after all the wedding stuff and now baby stuff, keep him posted.
Your babies are actually living off the egg yolk and what you do and eat is important but not as important as at later weeks. I know that it is so exciting and scary but TRUST your bodies to do what we do.
I am so truly excited for you both... being a momma is way better than a bride... but keep that in mind... he is not going to get anything until he can feel the baby move and then it does not hit home until he holds a baby... when he sees what you will go through to get that baby here, when babies are coming sometimes the guys get lost in the shuffle, I can tell how much ya'll love your men but dont forget that. As I said being a momma is so much better than being a bride, enjoy it, treasure it, educate yourself, love your husband, take a nap and get ready for a new ride.
Watch the Baby Story, it helps alot and plan your motherhood like you did your wedding, decide what you think, what you want, and only compromise with him/husband.
Best of luck to you and the family you are growing.
