We are having our ceremony and reception at the same place.  It was easier and cheaper to do it that way.   Our location just so happens to offer a Chapel and several different rooms for the reception.  Got both places reserved for the night before and the day of for only $525!!!

Our ceremony and reception will be @ the same venue to save on money and confusion of guests saying, "Now where do I turn to get there?"...EVEN THO THEY RECEIVED DIRECTIONS IN THE INVITATION. I don't want anyone to deal with that misery on my day.  I don't know about trend but it will save a gracious amount of $$$ on decorations, travel, etc.  However, because the wedding ceremony will take place at the same venue as the reception, we will have an intermission between the two so that we can take pictures, etc.  so with that said this means that there will have to be light cocktail items so that our guests won't starve or get bored while waiting for the festivities to begin.

We did our wedding, wedding food, cocktail hour, and reception at the same location.

The temple was across the street, and venue changed from day-time to night time between wedding and reception

At lunch time:

At reception time:

We added an additional chair cover - embroidered burgundy over the chairs - we left the original chair ties on, it gave it a spectacular effect, over the white linen at lunch, we added a burgundy table cloth, with chargers and new napkins - this time in gold, added addition pieces to the centerpiece - before it was just the taller cylinder with the 3 callas (real - from costco.com), and in some of the centerpieces we had low bowls with gerbera daisies (also from costco.com).  In both food events, it was buffet, but in the lunch one it was from a company called plasticthaali.com where the plates were plastic, not styrofoam, and had 7 compartments.  At dinner, these were ceramic with gold rims.

And the last, we added lighting of transitioning gold to burgundy and back to gold again. Pink lighting gives the best photogenic pictures =)

For our table, at lunch it was with the guests, and at dinner, it was up on that stage - check out those colors :)

Thanks for letting me share these again, I get misty-eyed every time I see these, they remind us about some really happy times, but we are all for making moments in our lives, each one, well defined!

Best of luck!

PS: A lot of our guests didn't realize that they came back to the same venue!!  That was super amazing!

PPS: I made our own centerpieces - they worked out about $10 a piece, even with all of the floating candles, plastic rocks, and cylinders.  And... you can sell of pieces of your centerpiece, we gave the inventory to our wedding coordinator for a nice discount :)

i don't think it's a trend so much as i've noticed it's more of a religious thing.  the majority of the weddings i have been to have been Jewish weddings, we are also Jewish, all of these weddings the ceremony and reception are in the same venue because the Rabbi comes to you, the actual temple isn't important.

whereas i have heard that in Christian based religions people who belong to or have a special connection to a church prefer to have it there or that the official will only perform the ceremony at the church (someone please correct me if i am wrong on this one).

we are having everything in the same location.
