How much did you gyus spend on your flowers? I am planning on having sunflowers as a basis for my bouquet and origionally wanted to do the same for the bms, but the girl who is doing them suggested yellow calla lilies for the bm bouquets. Either way for them I was just going to do several strung together and not a whole fancy bouquet. I just got the quote back today and it is way more than I was thinking on spending. I read somewhere that on average $698 is spent. What do you think?

We paid 1400 for our flowers. I thought it was going to be a lot more but it wasn't thankfully. We made our own centerpieces so that cut costs big time since we needed 21 of them.

LMAO!  $680 for flowers?!!!!  I don't know where that is the average.  Kudos for people who can do that, but I spent around $1500 and gave the florist free reign to use whatever flowers that were in season as long as they coordinated w/ the iris colored BM dresses and as long as I had white mini calls and peonies in my bouquet.  I thought we got a great price on the flowers.  It seemed to be the average for what people were spending in the Boston area.

It's really going to depend on what kinds of flowers you use. Things that are in season are going to be cheaper. If it's off season or they have to fly them in, the price is going to go up exponentially.

I only spend $150... but they are silk, and I got them on sale at Michaels and am assembling the bouquets myself... call me crazy!  We'll see how it turns out, my wedding is next month.

The amount people spend on flowers on average varies by a lot of different things:

-The area where they live
-The type of flower (based on availability, time of year, etc.)
-The size of the bouquet/centerpiece
-How many flowers total you'll be getting (some people fill the whole room with flowers while others just have a few)
-Silk or real

Generally speaking, Callas are going to be on the higher end of the spectrum price wise.  Sunflowers will depend on how easily they can be obtained and from where.

Your best bet is to get another quote from a different florist and compare the two.  Make sure it's a reputable shop so you're comparing apples to apples.

$680 sounds like quite a sum for some sunflowers.

Try a supermarket floral department -- and gerbera daisies would be nice for the BMs -- black eyed Susans are nice, too.

I personally think black eyed Susans are the most beautiful flower on earth.:)

I spent about $430 which included my bouquet, the MOH's bouquet, 3 boutonniers (sp?) for the men, 1 wrist corsage for my MIL, rose petals down the aisle, and a large arrangement for the altar. Since our wedding party was so small, the prices actually may've been high, but I was completely happy with the result. I also gave the florist fairly free rein; I told her the general colors I was looking for and specified that I wanted wildflower/garden-type varieties (nothing overly formal). She ended up using roses, peonies, star lilies, etc...all flowers that were in season for June.

Our reception venue was a restaurant with its' own unique decorations, so we didn't really need centerpieces. We just bought 3 dozen long-stemmed roses at the supermarket and had them arranged on the tables. That was an additional $60.

Well I guess I got away cheap! I am having the wedding and reception outdoors at my future in laws. Since they have huge gardens and great landscaping, I don't have to buy as many to decorate with. My total was $225 for 200 roses, of course those are in bulk and I still have to prep them myself, which I plan to do the day before the wedding.

I am spending about $250. I am ordering bulk from costco as well as some from QFC (grocery store).

I'll be getting 180 yellow roses , about 50 white large callas, and 50 white spider mum's from Costco.

From QFC I'm getting 2 bunches of each: white spray roses and orange spray roses. And one bunch of greens.

This is a practice bouquet I made! Way better than I thought!

We spent $600.  My great aunts and grandmother are florists and did the dirty work.  One of my great aunts was a wedding planner and still has connections to a "bulk" place.  This included 20 centerpeices, my bouquet, 3 bm's bouquets, 10 bouts, 6 corsages, and little centerpeices filling in everywhere else.  We had about 300 roses in three colors and a whole lot of green stuff and tall stuff.

We're spending about $650 for flowers.  That includes the delivery fee.  I live in southeastern Virginia, and that's a great deal here.  I told all the florists that I interviewed right off the bat that I wanted to spend around $600.  The woman that I hired was willing to work with that, but it helped a lot that I've encourage her to be really creative.

Average of $680 for flowers?  I hope that includes centerpieces.

We got off really cheap too since Matt's uncle is a retired florist and did our flowers as a gift.  The venue provided centerpieces for the tables.

Ok, call me crazy, but we are spending almost $5000 on flowers.  Our budget is $20,000, which we have slightly exceeded.  But, I wanted striking centerpieces.  I also wanted anthiriums for my bouquet, which you can apparently only get from Hawaii.  We are also using peacock feathers in the bouquets to bring in my turquoise accent color.

staceymc, thats a lot of money!  but they sound gorgeous!  I hope your flowers turn out exactly how you imagine them to be!  Post pictures.  I would love to see the use of the peacock feathers.

Here are my centerpeices.  I loved them.  We got married at a resort in a nature preserve. the greens fit.
and my bouquet. there was 25 roses in there.  it doesnt look like it because they are so tight, but it was heavy!

See I was thinking of spending more along the lines of $600, but the quote I had gotten was $1000. That was for 5 bms, my bouquet, the bouteniers, mothers corsages (there are 3 of them), petels for the flower girls, a arrangement for the church, and a throw-away bouquet. I was going back and foth about the toss-away, whether to do silk or real, but the girl doing my flowers said that there will be leftover flowers from the bunches she orders in for me and they would use those instead of ordering in extra.

I guess I was undershooting what I was going to pay. My FMIL said for her daughter she paid 5 or $600 for hers, but she only had 2 bms, and no chruch centerpiece. She said my quote sounded reasonable, and she is chipping in on the flowers.
I am stil going to try to change a couple things around to lower it a little though.

Misma, it sounds reasonable.

I had 3 BMs, my bouquet, 5 bouts [DH didn't wear one, but the 2 dads did as did the 3 BMS], 2 flower girl  mini bouquets, 2 mom's corsages, 2 large arrangements for the altar, 2 large arrangements for the reception venue, 1 fireplace mantle arrangement,  and 11 centerpieces.  And pew bows.  I thought $1500 was a deal.

I went with silks.  I wanted to be able to keep my bouquet and headtable centerpiece as-is, and I just couldn't see spending gobs of money on something SO temporary (the CHEAPEST quote I got was for 1K, and I just couldn't bring myself to do that . . . lol).

For about $400, I got: my bouquet, a toss bouquet, 2 BM bouquets, headtable centerpiece, 2 mothers' corsages, and 7 bouts (groom, 2 GM, our dads, 1 usher, 1 reader).

The lady who made them did a FANTASTIC job, and she uses really high-quality silks that you can only tell are silks once you touch them.  I had a lot of people shocked to find that my flowers weren't real.

My centerpieces were also silks, and for 20, I think I spent about $150.  We gave them away to basically anyone who wanted them at the end of the night.  I think I only brought 2 home, so they went really well.  I had other sil arrangements around the reception hall, too, and I gave a lot of those away.  People were happy to take them at the end of the night.  I spent probably another $150 or so on all the other silk arrangments.

Seriously . . . for good quality silks, you will spend about the same as for real flowers.

I found a florist here that does wedding packages for $150. That includes up to 10 centerpieces, my bouquet, up to 5 BM bouquets, my FH's boutineere thing and 5 for the GMs. I thought that was an excellent deal.

Most of the quotes I've seen online are in the thousands.

Danadoll- Who is this wonderful person you've found. I would love their contact information if you could provide? I'm getting married in NorCal next year, and that would be a huge savings.

Call me crazy too but we are spending around 3500-4000 for flowers. All of our centerpieces are silk arrangements but they have been done by my in-laws personal decorator. All of the live flowers are what myself and our bridal party of 16! are holding.... so we have a lot of flowers. $680 sounds like a steal to me, especially if they are are live flowers!

$600 is all you are spending on flowers?? Is that for the ceremony and reception?? I interviewed about 4 different florists in my area (Birmingham) and the lwest quote was $5,000. Highest being $12,000. I can not even get my bouqet and my 5 bridesmaids bouqets for $600.

I am in the same boat.  I have seen three florists in Baltimore and I havent' found any with a quote less than $3,500 with my highest being $4700.  We have opted to alternate tall candle holders with floral arrangments for centerpieces which is cutting the cost of centerpieces almost in half.

I am doing the same! I found cool hurricane vases at Big Lots that is my accent color burnt orange/amber and am alternating between those and vases of yellow roses. Cuts costs! And I bet they will both be pretty!

I estimate that I've spent about $300 for my flowers. I am using silks and making the bouquets, boot-in-the-rears, and corsages myself. The $300 includes all the supplies to do this as well, including ribbon, glue gun, glue stick, wire, tape, etc.

I am not doing floral centerpieces though either unless I have a lot of flowers left over. I plan on alternating centerpieces between pumpkins with ribbon on them, glass candle holders with water and floating candles, and if there are enough flowers left over - some small bouquets.

I'm using silks for the same reason that another poster mentioned - I want my bouquet to keep as is forever. Although real flowers would be wonderful and beautiful, they tend to brown and wilt around the edges - especially roses no matter how hard you try to preserve them as the evening goes on. Plus, the silk flowers I found look very real and are very beautiful. They also come in the exact colors I want.

I think it depends upon your location, your budget and if you'll have support or not.

We didn't do bouquets, but we created our own centerpieces, and flowers down the aisles (wedding and reception red carpets).

We went with Costco.com for the following orders, and they all arrived on time, and not in complete bloom, just a couple days earlier, so that on the wedding day, they were in full bloom.

Total was $668, which included shipping and handling. I've attached the item numbers as well, if you'd like to check here

$79.99 x 1: Assorted Gerbera Daisy 150 Stems Item #  300152
$114.99 x 1: Calla Lily White 75 Stems Item #  903138
$74.99 x 2: White Carnations Item #  373972
$74.99 x 2: Bi-Color Pink Carnations Item #  373991
$74.99 x 1: Bi-Color Assorted Carnations Item #  373997

The callas and gerberas were used in our centerpieces, high and low glassware, and these were set up by our wedding coordinator and her staff.

All of my cousins and aunts helped string the carnations to make a wall of carnations for our mandap - see pictures below.

The mandap had flower strings.

We had garlands of the same carnations around our necks.

Our centerpieces - 3 tiered cylinders, the top tier filled with  callas, and the other two tiers contain water, acrylic rocks that look like ice, with gold candles.  In the top tier as well, there is a floralyte at the base that lights up the calla stems.

In some of the centerpieces, we opted for low bowls, with gerbera daisies, and candles floating around as well, so that the guest's eyes can wander around the room, and find something eye catching...

Here's a better view of the wall of carnations...

Carnation petals on the red carpet

I do see some sunflowers on the costco.com website:
150 stems for $129.99 dollars or
80 stems for $89.99 dollars

see here.

Best of luck and I hope that helps :-)

Sarah akers (spelling, sorry!) where in NorCal are you getting married? This was a florist in Modesto, on Prescott and Standiford roads.

Is it possible to get your email? I'll find their contact info and send it to you.
