It's too bloody cold here today. Too cool for May in general.

The last hot day we had was a month ago. Then it cooled off; hasn't warmed up since.

I am getting ready for the art show.

I'm also coloring my hair.

And I hope that place calls me for the second interview.

I've got my toes crossed for you Stinky =)

Good luck!

It's freezing in the office today, I look quite funny with my down jacket on - almost penquin-ish!

I hope ALF's anniversary dinner was spectacular.

I hope Stinky gets a call back.

And I hope my little garden enjoys this rain. The only bad thing about warm weather coming is that my pansies and snap peas don't like it.

Thanks, Ariel!  Dinner was spectacular, but I didn't get to wear my cute top.  It was too cold!  It was in the 50s!  What the heck?!  I ended up wearing a pair of wool dress pants and my favorite cashmere sweater.  Hopefully, I'll get to wear my cute top for my birthday next month.  If it ever warms up  that is!  Argh. It had better warm up. We are going to Acadia Nat'l Park for a few days next month and we are going to freeze our butts off biking if it doesn't get warmer.  If it's in the 50s down in southern Maine, I don't want to know how cold it is up in Bangor.  There's probably snow for Pete's sake!

You could try mixing in some impatients w/ the pansies if you want to snazz up your garden.   They love the heat.  Real Simple magazine had some good suggestions for plants that like heat and require very little attention. I think it was the latest edition of the magazine. You can probably get it online too.

Too bad! Fortunately, the saying is true - if you don't like the weather, just wait a while. There's always that random shift when it goes from cool spring to hotter than Hades. I graduated from college June 9th a few years ago and it was sweltering - we all look awful in the pictures, because everyone was sweating bullets.

I'll probably put in some impatiens eventually - right now the pansies are thriving, but it won't be long. I have gerber daisies and gladiolius that are working their way up, but I'll need shorter flowers to cover the space in between. Up until this year, I've been a mostly vegetable gardener, but I'm branching out, so to speak, into flowers.

And everything is growing slowly. My 4 o'clocks that I planted from seed took almost 2 weeks to emerge.

I have clematis, a blueberry bush, sundrops (bloom every June 6th), black eyed Susans (positively the most beautiful flower that ever lived), lilacs, lavender, mums, daylilllies and a variety of other perrenials (forgot what they're called but they're fuscia).

I'm getting some annuals also, probably impatiens.

Just another little update....

We no longer have Stinky, our oldest turtle. We couldn't get him a bigger tank or a girlfriend and we're certainly not set up for breeding and having 40-90 new little turtles. We gave him to a pet store that we trust, and he's not going to be sold. He's most likely going to become the "house turtle" and live at the store or the owner's pond. It broke my heart to give him up, but we couldn't provide everything he needed so we gave him to someone who can.

Cheezy is now bigger than my hand and I need two hands to pick up Shelly now. She's so big and heavy and she's still growing.

If anyone is going to be in the Modesto area this weekend.... we're having a yard sale :) lol

haha awww you had to get rid of Stinky! I guess it would be for the best. I'm sure it killed you!

The new site really does suck! BIG TIME!!! its so slow loading and no one is here anymore they are all on livejournal.com. Which I am on too but I haven't gotten used to it or spent much time on it either. :)

Awww....will you still be able to visit Stinky and see how he's doing?

You devote a lot of time and attention to those guys. I love it...and I still miss my box turtle, my dime store turtles (I guess we had 5  of them over the years) and I even miss that dang snapping turtle my aunt found and gave to us.

There was a 2 hr wait in the endo's office today. Gah.

The good news is he reduced my dosage of thyroid meds. The bad news is I still can't sign up for a gym or my dance lessons.:(

Our town just tested out the brand new "disaster tower" siren.

There are no directions what to do if this thing sounds for realsies.

So they just alert you to your impending doom, but don't give you evacuation routes or anything?  lol.  Nice!

It begs the question - exactly what type of disaster are they talking about?

If they declare a disaster area because of snow, I can't imagine they'd want to turn on a siren - all you have to do is look outside.

Yeah, we'll be able to see him while he's still at the store. We won't be able to see him after he goes to a pond, but I'm sure the owners will let us know how he's doing. We just couldn't keep up with him anymore. He seemed to be afraid of us whenever we came up to his tank or tried to feed him, and he tried biting me several times. He got really close several times. He needs a girly and a bigger tank.

I know everywhere is doing bad economically, but CA seems to be getting worse and worse. Yet the new city manager for Turlock is going to make over $230k a year in salary, benefits and "allowances." He'll be the highest paid city manager in Stanislaus county. The Modesto city manager makes $185k, and Modesto is 3 times the size of Turlock. I don't understand where all this money is coming from when the cities are a single step away from filing bankruptcy, elementary, junior and high schools are closing their doors left and right. It doesn't make sense. I guess I don't understand politics that well.

I never knew turtles grew at such a speedy rate.

And those salaries are a disgrace. They are just as bad in small towns here -- how come our town administator is making six bleepen figures? For what -- a 14,000 person burb??

And don't get me started on the cushy town jobs. Work six hours take an hour lunch and you're home every day by four pm!

The guy next door works for the city of Modesto, and I would LOVE to have his schedule. He leaves at 5:50 am and he's back by 9 am and home THE REST OF THE DAY. This guy has two big Ford F350s (he also drives a city truck), a giant RV, a boat, his wife has her own minivan and they have a big pool in their backyard. The wife doesn't work, she's home all day.

WTF? Where do I sign up?

And BTW, about turtles growing... I don't know if you saw my other post about the babies, but Cheezy is as big as my hand now and I need both hands to pick up Shelly. J finally got video on his iPhone, so maybe I'll get him to help me post some pictures and this cute video we got of them eating. They grow depending on how you feed them. We're feeding them a high-protein, high-calcium diet and supplementing it with shrimp and dried krill. Keeping the water warmer than usual helps them grow quickly. If they grow TOO quick, they'll have problems like shell pyramyding (where the spots on their shell grow outward and don't smooth out) and organ failure. They're just like human babies, they need the right nutrition or they won't make it.

They're calling for crazy storms the next three days. In June?

I'm going to open interviews at Burger King today. I've been dropping off an application a week at Fashion bug for the past couple weeks. I need a job so bad... We can't make it on J's income alone anymore.

Dana, I hear ya.

I just interviewed with anotehr cheap company. "We interviewed entry level as well as those with lots of experience"? A good portion of the job entailed a supervisory position; it's definitely not an entry level position.

I don't think they want to pay anybody who has a lot of experience. My guess is they're going to give the job to another kid living at home and pay the kid about $12 an hour. THey're going to get what they pay for.

No luck yet job-wise :(  Saw an ad in the paper for "summer work for students." The ad said $12.50 an hour, but after looking into it, it's a company called Vector Marketing that is basically a traveling inventory company that 10-99's self-contractors. AND, it's state-wide jobs, not just local. There's a chance I would have to drive from Modesto to LA (about an 8 hour drive) and then to Sacramento in the same day.

It's ridiculous. I don't want to 10-99 myself again, that was a major PITA.

Amanda, I wanted to ask you something but there's no PMs still. Will the mods PLEASE get onto the bringing the PMs back and stop making stupid polls?

1099s are a tax nightmare. And then some.

That job I applied for? they want something for nothing.

And pretty much every cheap employer feels the same way. They're going to get what they pay for.

I can't even make a poll - maybe it has to do with two versions of internet explorer or mozilla on two different computers... weirdness total weirdness or madness which ever!
