How the heck many people sat for the state exam that I took?

About 6 weeks ago, I took a state exam -- I got the score back and I got an 85.

However, it says I am ranked 451st.

Out of how many people? and out of the number that passed or the number that took the exam for that category?

When my neighbor took a state exam he was ranked 7th -- that was in 2003 in good times.

And they start with #1 and work their way down, when it's time to call people in to interview for the category they tested for....and it also took my neighbor a year to hear from them for the interview.

For all I know, maybe 100 people got the same 85 I got -- yeah, but it still does not explain how it is they actually ranked people.

So much for the state exam...forget it.

I really wish my tree guys would com back and remove the rest of the dead trees...I think that is what I am allergic to. They were supposed to be here last week, and then yesterday..grrr.

You'd think in todays ecomony they would show their best work and willingness to get the job done so they could get more referrals. They did say they have no work right now.

Dead trees, stumps and what's above ground of the roots are also a fire hazard -- and they also are willing breeders for fungi, mold, mushrooms and a host of other microoganisms.

I had my good friend remove my tree stump and tree -- out of nowhere, my nice 40 year old apple tree died; we couldn't figure out why it died (I still suspect something was wrong iwth the concrete mix that they used on the sidewalks)

Talk about hazards, these are like hundred year old huge trees that are above major power lines, not to mention the road and house. The one they took down already was so dead it was hollowed out in the middle - I could have climbed into it and slept if I wanted to.
We can't take all the blame, we have only lived here for 6 months, and the house was built in 1890. You think someone would have already taken care of them...

Anyway, I think there is mold on them.

The good thing about trees that are already dead is that they're somewhat easier to get rid of, because they're lighter.

Still no fun.

That douchey vent bad bridesmaids thread doesn't need a mod -- it needs a defensive coordinator and defensive line.

They're opening up an H&M store here in Modesto in November. Tried to apply online, but they're not listing a Modesto location yet.

I've gotten all my housework done way too quickly, now I have literally nothing to do. Oh sh*t, I left the sheets in the washer....

Those sound cute.

My evening bags were $10 each; were $40 -- the store I got them from was going out of business and pretty much everything had to go.

(I've got the same evening bag, but in black; theirs were gold black and silver so they could use the bag with pretty much any evening ensemble)

Thats any awesome idea I did think about doing an evening bag so they could use them over and over. The totes were 9.99 and the necklace sets were 9.99 too! I was very happy with the price.

ugghh...I can't get my dog fricken potty trained. She's almost 6 months old, very smart, and knows she's done something wrong when she goes in the house. I just had her outside for 15 minutes and she went number 1 and then came in and not 5 minutes later I was cleaning up a number 2 mess.

I've never potty trained a dog and I heard that St. Bernards can take longer to train...but I don't understand that if she can learn to shake, stay, lie down, etc., by the time she was 4 months old she can't get it through her thick skull that it is not ok to go potty in the house! She even knows that she is not allowed to chew on shoes (for the most part) furniture, etc and if she has something she is not supposed to she drops it when we say so.

That being said I love her very much as does FH but we are going crazy with the whole potty thing!!!

We crate trained our dogs.  You need one big enough for them to stand up, sit down, lie down and turn around in, but no more.  Otherwise they'll go in a corner and then move to the other side.

Dogs will not go to the bathroom where they sleep (the exception is if they are sick, and that was so much fun. ick).  So it teaches them to hold it.

Dogs don't know they are doing something bad.  They just know that they are going to be punished.  If you were to pee on teh floor the dog would run cause pee on the floor means bad news, not "I, the doggy, peed on the floor nad I know it is wrong".

Crates are also great b/c a lot of dogs like to have their own den, which is why you often find them under beds, under tables etc.  It proves a secure place for them to go when they are scared and a place to call their "own".

You might have a bit of trouble with finding one big enough for a St Bernard.  I suggest PetCo or PetSmart and if they don't have them see if they can order one big enough for you.

Also you need to leave her out there until she poops.  Sometimes this takes FOREVER, but you cannot bring her in until she poops.  She has learned that she doesn't have to go poo outside, that mommy lets her in to poo in the house.

So you need to keep her out there till she poos.  It is a real PITA sometimes, but that's what you gotta do to get her out of the notion that it is okay to poo in the house.

We do have a crate and she does not go in it. We will have to buy a bigger one very soon though. We put her in there when we are gone and at night.

FH and I were just talking about leaving her outside until she goes. It's hard because sometimes I think "maybe she just doesn't have to go number 2 right now".

Anyway, thank you fort the advice - I'll take any offered on this subject. I just kinda needed to vent. But like I said she is a sweet lovable dog and wouldn't trade her for the world. If she kicked this habit she would be perfect!

Tethering the dog to you with a leash helps, too: this way when you see her circling, you can take her outside to let her pee or poop.

And don't forget to praise the daylights out of her.

Also, we need pictures of the doggus.:)

Danke Misma.

I let the turtles out of their tank today. BAD IDEA. Shell (the biggest one) took off under the table the tank is on, and I couldn't get her to come back to me. I had to lift her out sideways :(

Cheeze took off towards the closest, but I got him before he got inside.

They're way too fast now. I can't believe how fast Shell was under the table. She has to weigh at least a pound or two now. She's as big a small salad plate. Cheezy is the size of a ramekin. They're going so fast! Smile

We do have a crate and she does not go in it.

What are you doing when you introduce the crate?

The first thing you should do is leave it open so she can explore, don't shut her in and do this when you are home.

And fill it with comfy blankets. I can get cheap-o fleeces at the dollar store.  My dogs like their kennels a lot more when they can build nests.

Then associate the kennel with positive things.  We trained our dogs to get into their kennels by giving them treats.  They can only get the treat if they hop into their kennels.  Now we can just say "Kennel" and they hop in w/o the treat.

Putting her food in there helps too b/c then she associates it with dinner.

Also, make her sleep in it.  We made our Aussie sleep in her kennel.  And don't let her out if she howls or whines, that only teaches her that mommy and daddy will let her out if she makes a peep.

They were unsure of them atfirst but now neither of them can sleep outside the kennel at night.  My lab even whines if I forget to cover the door, she lays there wide awake.

She does sleep in her Kennel and when we leave to go somewhere. She likes to sleep in it - she knows when it is time for bed. I read somewhere that when they misbehave to put them in their crate and ignore them, that way they know they will not get anything for their bad behavior.

She does pretty good with not begging when we are trying to eat, but a couple of times when we had people over we put her in there because she wanted to beg then. And we left her in there for dinner even though she whined.

At night now, we can leave the door open and she will not go in the bedroom, (yes its in our room). First thing in the morning there is no potty problem, it is during hte day. We are having a hard time recognizing when she needs to go. Obviously after she eats or plays and gets too excited, but the other times she just doesn't really let us know. Or she does but we just don't always recognize it. I was thinking of getting a bell and hanging it on the door and ringing it every time she goes outside. What do you think about that?

Maybe you are just not leaving her outside enough.

And with puppies they sometmes have to poo faster after eating.  When we were potty training I had to let Midnight out a lot faster after she ate when she was a puppy, it seemed to go right thru.

She also whines when she has to go out.  Our Aussie looks at me with what I call "potty eyes" and if I ignore them she pees everywhere in the house.

Took us awhile to figure out Sabah's "potty eyes" b/c the other dog is much more vocal when she has to go to the bathroom.

So you may need to observe your dog and see what behaviors she exhibts when she has to go.  My dad's older pug wanders and starts sniffing things like he is getting ready to lift his leg.

It is SOOO much easier when they are vocal, but pretty much all dogs give a "I have to go NOW" signal.  You just have to figure out what hers is.
