Amanda is spot on -- you have to figure out the signal. Also, it's useful to have a routine so they know when it's outside to play and when it's outside for business.

I swear you could set your watch by one of my family's golden retrievers -- when I'm taking care of the dogs, she knows exactly when it's time for breakfast (6am) and dinner (6pm) and starts getting restless, scratching at the door or jumping up on you. It's uncanny. (It's also closely related to her "I gotta go!" dance which occurs at times other than mealtime.)

My dogs do the same thing! even sometimes one of my dogs who is 3 we just crate trained him he will scratch at his crate door to let me know he needs to go pee. Then he heads right to the back door out he goes then back in bed. My other dog who is one we had her trained since day one. I think her bed is her happy place cuz she just loves to be in it! Like Ariel said she's knows when its time to play and time to do business and time to eat. Dogs are so smart!

haha! Speaking of smart doggies, my dog now barks when he hears the Mr. Softee truck.

Hehe -- I think he's conditioned; I went out to the truck a couple times and got a vanilla cone. Elvis had some too.:)

So now he wants his Mr. Softee soft vanilla ice cream.:)

The turtles are pretty smart, too. When they see us picking up the container of their food with a yellow top, they flip out. The one with the yellow top has all their favorites, shrimp, krill, baby pellets. The other one, with a red top, has pellets that they HATE. If they see the yellow top, they flip out. If they see a red top, they hide.

They both know their names now, too Smile

I was actually thinking about doing that. I figured if we rang the bell every time we took her outside then she would get the point and start doing it herself...

It is really funny. But I am ready to try anything. She is a very good dog, I always have to point it out because I really don't want to complain about her, and I am sure we just don't quite realize what her "tell" is to go outside, but if she could just help me out a little...that is all I ask for.

I am hoping if we get the bell thing she will pick up on it. She is so smart.

My dog usually barges up to me and crashes into me with his nose.

Then he'll jump up and down and loudly start to bark.

Then he'll herd me until I get his leash on him and take him outside.

I loves my doggie.:)

she knows exactly when it's time for breakfast (6am)

I no longer need an alarm clock, my dog barks at EXACTLY 7am and will not stop until I get up.

How she knows it is 7 am I have no idea.

Back before the transition, we had talked at length about this SCOTUS case. Recap: 13-yr-old girl in school is accused of having ibuprofen and is forced to disrobe to her underwear and shake it out to prove she has nothing on her. She sued, arguing that her constitutional rights were violated.

News: the SC ruled today in her favor. But said she has to go back to a lower court if she wants to try to collect damages.

She'd have to go to a lower court if she wanted to prove damages.  This is true for any appellate decision, not just SCOTUS.

Good for her.  That case had a totally crazy set of facts.  I mean, it was ibuprofin. She wasn't self medicating w/ heroin for Pete's sake!!!

Oh good I am glad that she won that one.  To me there is absolutely zero excuse for asking a student to disrobe to their underwear.

And I do believe it wasn't just teh school nurse present, it was the principal and assistant principal as well who were MALES.

And I'd be pissed as hell as a parent if even the school nurse did that w/o calling me to ask for consent.

Even at the freaking doctor's office you cannot pull a minor into a room and do an examination w/o a parent.

So what gave the SCHOOL NURSE the right to do so?  Especially in the presence of male administrators?

Yep -- colored sashes were real popular several seasons back.

I saw other colors when I was looking for dresses. A lot of dresses have either a colored trim or some kind of detailing. I have also seen sashes tied around the waste too.

I have not attended a wedding with said attire, but have seen it in bridal salons and magazines.

Georgetown, I'm planning on dying the skirt under my main skirt with all the details pink.

I said a prayer for Farrah today. She's not in pain any longer, so that's a comfort to know.

My brother called me from Iraq today LaughingLaughingLaughing
He got my email from my parents, so now we're talking on Yahoo messenger. It's so good to talk to him, to know that he's okay.

I measured the turtles today, Shells is 7 inches long and 4 1/2 inches wide. Cheeze is about 5 inches long, maybe 4 inches wide. He was hiding, I couldn't get that great of a measurement lol

I took Elvis to the vet today. For a 7 year old doggus he is in great health.

He does have a touch of arthritis starting up in his knee, sez the vet.

Yes -- I just got done reading about Fawcett and then clicked in CNN....I see a photo of MJ and said, "what's up with this?" and when I scrolled down and saw the caption...Frown

How sad. I remember them from waaay back in the day when they were first starting out. I am pretty sure they "robbed" the jumpsuit idea for the 5ive of them from Elvis.

Everybody borrows from everybody else in the music world -- there's nothing new or original. hehe

anyway, Elvis is part foxhound, part Jack Russell and maybe some sheltie or collie thrown in.

Here is my boy:

I hear you Stinky.  I had the phone ring 2 times when I was in the shower. I thought it was DH [who was at work] and an emergency b/c it kept ringing. So I finally answer the phone on the 3rd ring [I'm stark naked and soaking wet] and it's a woman looking for an inn.  I tell her it's the wrong number. She immediately calls back and asks "is this Number ####?].  Lady, if you hit redial, it's still the wrong number.  Yes, you are dialing correctly.  She calls AGAIN 5 minutes later and is still surprised it's not the inn.  Did the answering machine that said you've reached "Alf and D" that you heard 2x while I was in the shower not convince you that you had reached a residence and not a business? Argh!

I also get 2 people named Erica and Heather who constantly text me.  Now, I don't text and I have no idea how to pick up the texts [what can I say? I'm 37 and nearsighted. I couldn't read a text on my phone if I wanted to].  They've been doing this for months.  You'd think that after getting no reply, they'd figure it out.  All I know is that I"m not being charged for it [presumably b/c I don't pick up the text].  But oh it drives me nuts!!!!

Just out of curiosity - not trying to offend anyone- what cultures is it ok not to shave under your arms? For females I mean. Yesterday I saw a lady in a tank top, who was very well dressed, good hygine and everything, but the hair under her arms was as long as my FHs. I was a little surprised. I thought at one time I heard in Europe, but when I lived in Germany everyone shaved. And she didn't have an accent either. Where does this come from?

I believe it's French women that don't shave. I'm sure not everyone does this but I know a lot of french women don't do it. i think its gross. I know for me I feel weird when i don't shave for a day or two and I really wont have anything to shave after missing a day.

California or VT. ;-)  Many crunchy, granola people don't shave. If it was full blown pit hair, she was probably a crunchy granola person. If it was stubble, she was probably being lazy.  One of my roommates from college didn't shave in the winter.  She was from VT. She claimed it was blc it kept her warm.  I kid you not.  We had to look at her nasty, hairy legs all winter whenever she walked around in a night shirt and shorts.  I have blonde leg hair and shave daily.  Including my pits!!!  It's gross not to, esp when it's hot out.

If she was from Europe, it was probably Eastern Europe. The ladies in Western Europe are pretty hairless.
