Favors can be super easy and cheap, if you got the time a willingness to put in the effort, if you collect seashells you can use the fan (clam or oyster type shells) for your favors and place cards, just use a paint pen, or some hot glue and card stock, as for centerpieces you can usually find cheap pretty glass ware like vases, or fish bowls and fill them with shells and a pretty candle, If you do not have the time to collect shells yourself, drive to any coastal villlage, u can usually buy seashells in gallon zip top bags for a few dollars....i have tons of ideas you could make your own luminaries using colored paper bags and hole punches and battery operated tealights....If you are not actually getting married on the beach you could even get sand to make your center pieces a 50 lb bag of play sand is usually around 5 dollars.....you could put the sand in the center of the tables with a group of shells and candles!

Cute beach theme with hearts - can be postcards for the table - poster size too for the reception.

To set up the altar area on the beach, you could make an arbor from reclaimed wood (driftwood lashed together with vines works great if you are the handy type).  Be sure to make the main frame out of heavier pieces, so that it won't blow away!  Then cover the arbor with some vines/flowers that go with your colour scheme.  An arbor creates a nice focal point for your ceremony.

If you don't like the look of an arbor, you could try a streamer backdrop.  Use five to ten tall bamboo poles (you can often find them at garden centres) anchored in the sand behind the altar area in a zigzag pattern like:

 O         O         O         O         O
       O         O         O         O

Use a light fabric like tulle or satin (in whatever colour you like) and attach long streams of the fabric to the poles.  Theres usually wind on the beach, so the streamers will flutter out creating a stunning effect. (I did this once for an upscale  beach party and it looked fantastic!)

Another idea: use tall bamboo torches to mark the perimetre of your area.

favor ideas could be: little fake starfish painted in your colors with your names on them, or maybe suntain lotion bottle with personalzied labels, or little mini beach balls? i love seashells on cakes instead of flowers too!

I am getting married on the beach in Hawaii, due to the beach feel and tropical feel we are using shells and orchids! My theme is starfish with shells, and our colors are turqouise/aqua with a touch of pink.

Here are my suggestions: Beach ceremony
You could rent chairs but if you didnt want that expense to make a clear isle add flower petals. Then you want to make a clear alter so either rent a bamboo chalupah (my rental place they are 100 bucks to rent) and hang linen from it with strands of flowers down the back. Due to the wedding is in hawaii I am not able to bring much, but if yours is more local you could just put Four Potted Palms at the front and tie the potts with colored ribbons to match your theme. I have also seen people line their isle with conch shells rather then flowers.

Favors:
We are giving out fans at the wedding for favors- they are useful. But you could do personalized koosies with your name and shells or waves, personalized water bottles..there are shell chocolates you could give away..the list goes on and on.  Due to ours being a destination wedding we are giving baskets to our guests when they arrive, but we are doing beach pails with sunscreen small bottle, shell chocolates, chap stick with our names on it and a thank you card.

Reception decor:
This really depends on your location and whether you want it beachy or beach elegant. We are going to a luau after, but when we return we are having a reception that is traditional- I still want to carry over the beach theme but not have it too beachy (elegant).
But you could do hurricane glasses with a candle and shells and sand, I saw one girl put brown sugar on the tables to look like sand and then scattered shells.  I have also seen small laterns with shells scattered around.  Be creative!
Our center pieces are two different types, the lower ones will be two cylinder vases with shells on the bottom, filled with water and orchids floating inside, we will then have votives surrounding them. My taller arrangements will be cylinder vases with shells again and water but willow branches out the top - reminds me of wood you find washed up on the beach and then strings of orchids will be hanging from the branches. We aren't doing favors at the reception back home, but I will have a basket with flip flops for the girls and every other seat will have a real lei on it so they feel like it is Hawaii.

The knot has a beach wedding website with great  advice and pictures.. so do some searching. I am such a beach girl so I loved finding all the details.
I hope this helps.. I am on facebook if you want to find me. TriciaLB02@hotmail is my email- look it up.

PS Sorry I forgot to tell you our seating cards will be on a table with the card tied to a starfish or a large sand dollar- one more way for me to tie in the shells. Also instead of regular table numbers, we named the tables after beaches we have visited in the bahamas, the keys and hawaii. It is sentimental and beachy! So maybe you can name them after beaches, or beach items- shells names..etc.

Hope this helps.
