Hello!

I definitely think its cheaper to do them at home.  I checked around to see prices & I thought they were ridiculous.  So my MOH & I went to Office Depot & purchased the invites ( a Kit; includes; envelopes, RSVP's cards & ebvelopes & stickers to close them.) I also bought my escort cards there too.  I spent about $60.  Of course thats with me just buying one kit (of 50 invites)

I actually printed my invites at work. It was so much easier to do this bc all my wedding planing, wedding list & addresses are in my comp at work, & I saved money on ink. (Hehe) :)

I loved the way my invites came out, they were simple but elegant & very nice.

So as long as you have a printer...u could definitely do them your self.

Good Luck :)

I did my invites at home, and they came out great.  It only cost us $55 for the invites!!  It did take a couple of hours to do the invite, reply cards, directions, hotel info, reply envelopes, and the outer envelopes.  If you have the time, it is a good way to go!!

I did my own invites and save-the-dates. I got a GREAT deal because I bought my invites when all the fall stuff went on sale last year. I paid $21 for 120 invites with a sleeve, ribbon, rsvp cards/envelopes, and the outer envelope. Total cost of the 100 invites with postage $121. hints.. buy more than you need for testing (one or two extras is not enough), if you set up you addresses in an excel spreadsheet you can do all kinds of fun mail merges for labels, personalized RSVP cards. and you can keep all your data in one place (ie invites, gifts, thank yous, counts for your caterer)

We did a combo.  We had the save the dates and the invitations printed. I did the programs myself.

I had the menus for the reception printed but I had them done for about 10.00 so it was well worth saving my time and having them done.

I printed the menu for the rehearsal dinner myself.

Not sure how much you want to spend on invites but you can go & puchase an invitation kit & inside the box there should be a website that does the complete format for you.... Its that easy & u just print them out :)

I did everything at home, invites (with response cards and envelopes), escort cards, programs, everything.  I liked doing it this way because I could have a similar theme throughout, using the same fonts, stationery, etc.  I added a personal DIY touch by printing a photo of my husband and I on the invite card, overlaying it with a printed vellum sheet with the invite information on it, then tying together with a blue ribbon, the color of the wedding.  I also added a ribbon to the programs, to bring it all together.   I think it looked very professionally done, and I spent WAY less than any other brides I know who had their invites sent out to print.  It took a little more time with all the tying of the ribbon and formatting, but I had a great guy at Kinko's who was my saving grace.
So happy to be his Mrs!

I found this great site online.  www.annsbridalbargains.com. They have invitations at a low low cost.  U might want to check it out.  They also have other wedding ceremony and reception products.  I did my save the date cards through vistaprint.com.  I got a hundred postcard sized cards for only about $6.  I got the for free and just had to pay shipping cost.

I am going to do my own programs though.  I am going to pick out paper from office max or office depot.  I am doing ceremony programs and reception programs. I got a good printer and my dad has a laser printer.  So i am going to do them from his or mine.

you can try going to a michaels -

but before you go, BE SURE TO GET THOSE 40% off coupons from the circulars. you can also print them from the computer.

the BRIDES line of wedding stationary is pretty good, and becomes extremely cheap after the 40% off. make sure you go with someone so you get 40% off on each thing with one coupon each. (hahahaha)

also, make sure you dont get odd shape envelopes (like square ones) because they cost more money to mail.

good luck!

I bought stationery from Michaels.  It was simple, but I really lliked it.  And lucky for me, they carried matching stationery for the invites, escort cards and programs, so they were all the same.  The kit I used had a link to a website that had the program, no need for new software.  I did look online for examples of wording.  I also looked at the professional invitations from my friends who were also getting married around the same time as mine.  I stole ideas and made it completely my own.  Plus, the website I went to offered free fonts, so you have a large selection of fonts to choose from to suit your style and theme.

I'm not quite sure why you would need glue, I guess it depends on the kit you buy, I didn't need any for any part of my wedding stationery.  I did buy a hole punch, but I got a lot of use out of it, for the ribbon on the invite as well as the programs.  And my stepmother has already borrowed it, so I figure I have gotten the value back, for the $6 I purchased it for.  My invites were a plain card, I didn't need to fold them, but I assume most kits you buy will have a perforation or fold line so you won't have to really fold them yourself.  Again, really depends on the invite you choose to go with.  Here's a picture of how my invites turned out.  Sorry I don't have a picture of my programs or escort cards...

We decided to make our own b/c to spend the money to have them done for us with a guest list of almost 700 people is outrageous......so mom found a website where you can download the layout of our invitations, program cover, rsvp card, menu card, table number card.....the only thing is that we cannot change to color of the design.....we can only change the name's, date, time, and place which is fine with me b/c i LOVE the way it is.
http://www.pashwedding.com/

All we need to do is buy paper, envelopes and ink..... so it will probably only cost us maybe $250 vs $1000 by ordering them thru some company

wow, 700 people?! is that the whole town?!

if you havent started yet - i suggest that you find a BLACK AND WHITE TEMPLATE (so you will be only buying black ink) and then print it on a paper of your choice of color (staples have a lot of good nice ones, and resume paper - laid, vellum and linen cheap there too)

you can also do some color embellishments - like rubber stamps, maybe paste or knot a bit of ribbon. (there are some spools at michaels for 50 cents - if you knot them, make sure you get a nice ribbon punch, so you get two holes in one go - these cost like 5 bucks)

good luck!

I found mine at Walmart when they went on clearance.  40 invitations with envelopes, response card with envelope and ribbon....and they were only 9 bucks a package.  I would do it all over again.  It does take time but when you think about how much money you can save it's all worth it.  I noticed someone mentioned michaels but you can also get a good deal at hobby lobby when they have their 50% bridal event which seems to be going on all the time.  good luck!

HI,
I bought all  my paper from www.paperandmore.com. I bought a pack of blue, a pack of white and and a pack of silver small pieces (5x7)that I used as a backing mat. Everythig that I bought was on sale. I also bought the envelopes from them. I used a combination of ideas from different invites and made my own unique invite. The paper which came in packs of 100 each were able to be used for everything; invites, programs, menus, response cards. The only thing that was separate were the save the date magnets that I bought from staples and then printed at home.
Good luck!

I'm doing mine at home. I went on ebay today to get punches, stamps, ink pads, adhesive pearls, ribbons and anything else I might need and then to www.rapidsupplies.co.uk and brought a ton of coloured card, matching envelopes and hammered paper (All by the sheet) and I've spent less than £25 on everything and I haven't even decided what I want to do with it yet! But theres enough there to make invites, thank you's, RSVP's, Place cards... looking forward to it all arriving so I can get started!

I had a look on www.vistaprint.co.uk as well which did some rather good ones also for fairly decent prices. For a bigger wedding they look good value.

Good luck with finding something!

Another thing to mention is that I've not had to print directions, maps, menus, accomodation, transport and whatever else because it's all on my wedding website. All I'm planning to do there is put the web address on the invites and have people write their menu choices on the RSVP cards.

www.projectwedding.co.uk do some really elegant ones.

You can go to a craft store like michaels and buy a kit that has blank invitations, envelopes, rsvp cards, ect.  I bought 100 blank invitations and envelopes at michaels for $15.99. It didnt include the rsvp cards but im making those with blank index cards that are 44 cents for 100 and the the cost of envelopes.  www.wedding-invitation-ideas.com is a great site.  It has free printable designs, step by step instructions and even a section with wording that all you have to do is add your names and date.  It made it much easier and my total cost for invites and rsvp's is about $30.00 for 100!

I went to archivers scrapbook store. Its a little more difficult than just getting a kit but you can totally design everything the way you want it. They have the basic start but you have to run with it. I am having a winter snowflake theme. As you can see here, I printed my info on the top sheet, then glued it to a gold paper backing. Glued those 2 pieces to the inside of the folder. I punched out snowflakes in gold paper and glued them down, then placed little jewels on each snowflake. There is a pocket on the left where the directions, reception, and rsvp card goes. Those each get printed out and stamped with gold ink to match the theme. Its $50 for 25 sleeves, which is a bit pricey but still cheeper than having them made for you. You can check out all the basics at archivers.com. There were 3 of us working on them for about 4 hours and we got 45 done. Its time consuming especially since I had no previous experience in scrapbooking. hah

It could be hundrads of dollars cheaper by doing them your self. My hubby and I had a great time doing them. . . but being the perfectionest I am it was quite time consuming!

Just have fun with it and be creative. . . People are always impressed when you do things your self.

Madly in love,

Creating your "papers" at home has saved me hundreds. Check out
www.enveloppersinc.com  they have DIY's, lots of papers to choose from. I chose to include stamping. Here's an easy suggestion and it came out WONDERFUL!!  Choose your paper color... find a stamp that you like and flows with your wedding (mine is a beach wedding so I chose a sandcastle).. use a watermark ink pad.. stamp the bottom right, emboss it (much easier than it sounds)... print your wording on velum... overlay the stamp... tie it off with a nice ribbon, or layer other coordinating papers....... I created about 65 Save the dates in about 3hrs... time consuming yes... but the finished product is amazing... embellish it...  have fun.. invite your girls over to help.. most crafty people have crafty friends that would never turn down an offer to play!!

I went to Michael's and bought a kit of 50 invites for $17.00 with the 40% off coupon (the ONLY way to shop!).
I ended up making my own pocket fold  envelopes with a pack of white cardstock I bought at Big Lots for $2 and I also used decorative scrapbook paper that I already had for the bellyband and accents. You can see pics and details at my wedding blog:
 http://pandbwedding.blogspot.com/2009/10/my-very-diy-pocket-fold-envelopes.html

Time consuming, but saved TONS of money doing this myself. You can also splurge a little more money on more expensive cardstock for a more elgant look.  But as for me, I am quite content with my simple and sweet design.
Good luck my fellow brides to be! Wink

From my current reseach, it's about 1/6 the price to do them at home.  I really want to do them at home, but we'll see.  I'm always up for a little DIY!

I've done friends low-budget wedding invitions, and there are some great places to get nice paper.  If you can get nice paper, have a good printer, and enough ink cartridges (and like to do them, or coarse!), then you will be fine!

I'm currently looking to create some of my own paper, because the idea I have in my head I cannot find anywhere, so we'll see what comes of that too.

I ended up doing absolutly EVERYTHING!!  The place cards, invites (with all the inclusion cards), envelopes, program, save-the-dates, rehersal dinner invites.  It looked like a million bucks!!!  I was so happy with everything, and it looked so great!!!

I bought 3 boxes of invites from Ollie's costing $12.99 each, and they are DIY.  I know they will come out nicely because I just graduated from college and did all my invites this way as well.  Like a previous Bride in Waiting mentioned I will be printing my invites at work as well to save on ink :)

I see it this way, you are inviting people to share your day, the invite tells them when, where and why.  Most people unless you are close to them will not save your invite to show friends, etc.  They will throw it away so why pay hundreds of dollars for invites that will get trashed anyway?  You can still go low on spending and make them pretty yourself!  Invest that money into your honeymoon girlfriend!
