I went to Davids Bridal about a month ago and was looking at dresses, I fell in love with there color ribbon trimmed vials but about had a heart attack when I saw the  price. I started thinking $125?! I could make it myself for less then 30.

That was when it started. I then decited I want to add black lace and more ribbon, The other day I took my fiancee to Michaels and bought some black ribbon,  what feels like a million yards of tulle, a metal hair comb, and black lace. I only spend like $20. So I sat down on the table and started cutting and pinning everything together and so far it looks great.

The only problem is that it took me like two or three hours to pin everything and I know it will at least take me twice as long to sew it. I have never sewn anything lace or tulle before and I heard you have to do it by hand. Am I getting myself in too deep? I still have like 6 months before the wedding but I am afraid I might screw up and have to start over. Is this way more work then I was thinking it was going to be?

I don't have any sewing advice, except to offer this website, which seems to have links to lots of "make your own wedding veil" instructions:

Good luck!

Can you experiment with gluing the ribbon around the edge of the tulle instead of sewing it?

If you iron the ribbon in half down the middle to give yourself a crisp fold, it might work.  Or at least the glue would help hold it down as you sew.

Good luck!!!

Gathering Tulle is easily (some say best) done by machine.  You want to do all gathering first, before you attach any ribbons, seed pearls, crystals,  or a comb.   What is it that you have pinned without yet sewing?

I have already gathered the vail and attached it to the comb. All the pinning was the ribbon and lace
