And to once again quote Charlie Brown:

Rats.:(

Today was not so good. I was gung ho and psyched up for the red door....

Turns out the red door SUX.

It is supposed to be a russet red -- the color has come out far too dark and it's positively lifeless.

My aunt, who is a decorating and renovating expert, told me to sand it down and apply another coat.

I dunno -- the red looks too stark next to the almond-colored sidelights: both are in the warm family so what gives? Why does it look so blah and so off?

Then I find out that my jerk brother is now seeing 3 women -- and he's happily leading all of them on! They each think they're the only player in the picture...not so.

He pulled this scheisse on a couple of girls quite ahwile back it did NOT come to a good end with either one of them.

(He also stiffed me today..."I took a mental health day." I said, "Thanks a LOT. You could have painted this bloody ceiling to the porch!" To this, he says nothing.

(he lives upstairs in the other apartment; it is now also nearly mid-October and time's a passing; pretty soon it will be too cold to paint -- and I also want to get my Halloween decorations up and running. I won't put anything out until this doorway is a done deal.)

Maybe I will scrap said doorway and sand it completely and go for a blue instead. I really don't like the way the color turned out.

If I scrap the color, it will only cost me maybe twelve bucks; I only bought a quart of paint since it's 21 square feet and what do I need a whole gallon for?

THen I figured I'd take myself out to dinner. That didn't turn out so good, either. Now my stomach hurts and I've made 2 trips to le john in the last hour or so.

Why is it so freaking hard to donate furniture and other household goods?  Honestly, people need stuff and charities are being picky about what freaking day they want to come and get stuff. No, I cannot rent a truck to load 2 sets of tables and chairs, bookshelves, end tables, lamps, clothing and other items so that I can bring them to you. Nor can I reschedule my life so that I can be here on the one day of the week you want to come, when that one day is the only day that I absolutely cannot be there.  F it.  I'll just bring everything to the dump - DH will have to make several trips, but jeez of pete if you don't want high quality goods in good condition, I'll bring it to the dump, where people who have money to spare, but don't want to spend it, can descend on it at the swap shop and take it home.

Salvation Army can only come on Tuesday. I can't be here on Tuesdays [I'm tied up this Tues and we have movers coming to pack the following Tuesday] and I had to leave a message for Catholic Charities.  Mother of God!

and DH invited friends of his to stay over this weekend.  I thought they were coming on Sat.  We have brunch reservations w/ my aunt on Sunday at 11, and no they cannot come [you need reservations and we made them weeks ago].  DH tells me this AM just before he leaves the house and as I am half asleep, oh they may come up today.  They have 2 kids, a 4 yo and a 1 yo, we have a non-childproofed house, a cat who isn't used to kids, and did I mention we are moving in 10 freaking days?  WTF?!  DH of course told me they were coming AFTER I went to the grocery store on Tuesday, so not only do we have no food in the house, I don't even know when they are arriving.  Is it so hard to give your wife a week's notice of people coming to visit, and maybe, oh, I don't know, ASKING before you invite a family of 4 to visit overnight when you know we already have plans and are going to have to rush them out of the house on Sunday.  And when we are moving in less than 2 weeks!  Argh.

Thank freaking God.  DH just called. His friends aren't coming today, but are coming at some unspecified time tomorrow. Still not good, but at least I don't have to worry about having people for 2 nights. I guess I do have  time to clean the bathtub in the other bathroom after all.

And then the power went out this AM.  [clearly, it's back on now]  I don't need any further delays w/ prepping for these guests.  It totally messed up my washer/drier sequence.  Argh.

All I can say is DH is taking me out to dinner tonight, he is picking the place and making reservations. I'm doing nothing other than showing up in a nice outfit. Grrrrr.

ETA: and I'm PMSing.  Can you tell!?? Yell

Shoot, even if you weren't PMSing, you still have a good reason to be ticked.

Thorw all those hormones on top, and you have a recepie for disaster.

Good luck Alf. I do not envy you. While I love having people over, to entertain them for a night or two, along with kids, right before you are moving is overkill.

Couldn't they have come like 2 months ago?

Note: Not directed to anyone on this site, you all have been wonderful.

If I have one more person tell me not to worry about a current rant and rave and that everything would work out if I would stop freaking out, I think I may scream!  I am not an unreasonable person, I just need to vent for heavens sake!  Stop telling me that everything is ok when it is clearly not ok because I am freaking out!  Yes, in the deep corners of my brain I understand that I am going a little overboard, but on the surface, I just need someone to listen!  If I want advice, I will ask for it!  But do not ask me how I am doing or my opinion, say you truly want to know, then get upset with me because I am being "irrational" or "over worrying" the situation.  Take five seconds to consider things from my point of view and be the supportive person I know is inside somewhere...  Remember that this wedding is not about what you want and you do not know what goes on at my job.  You do not know how I feel and try as I may, you will never understand how I truly feel.  It cannot be fixed...  Just listen.  You don't even need to ask questions, just listen.

Sorry, just needed to get that off my chest...

Since we are all venting......I am sick of making ALL of the decisions.  I am on decision overload.  This isn't just my wedding, it is my FI wedding too, but if I ask him something he just replies "whatever you want hun is fine with me".  Oh I am going to scream if he says that one more time.  We are meeting with our DJ tonight and I swear he had better participate!

Ok I'm done, thank you!!!

Chelle - my DH did the same thing. I asked him once about it, and he said - from his expierence, that he would get his head bitten off if he answered wrong. Or if I didn't like it i woudl go with what I wanted anyway.

I also realized that he, being of the male varity, just didn't CARE about all the little details. (Although he would shoot me if I said he didn't care about the wedding.)

So I picked a couple of things for him to do based on his personality. Like the music. He picked out our first dance song. Not one I even knew at the time ("Forever" by KISS) but he was so happy that I said I liked it and went with it.

Maybe you could find something and give him the responsiblity of getting it done? Based on what he may like?

The music is really the last thing for us.  Our wedding is on 10/17 - so we are down to the wire here.  It's just that there are a million little decisions that you have to make at the last minute.  Just when you thought everything was all set, someone will go, "well, what about this?"!!!!!  I guess it is good that people do that, otherwise stuff would be forgotten.  I just need a break from being the decision maker!

Chelle, I found that when given  limited choices Matt did better. If I said which of these do you like better, a, b, or c he would tell me which one he liked.

I made him go with me to vendors to make decisions.  He said he didn't want to go but too bad so sad, he went.

I dragged him to the bakery.  He complained the entire drive.  Once we were there he tried to eat all of our samples and he ended up choosing the cake and the flavors.

Chelle - the little decisions drove me crazy too! I think I started a post about that a month before the wedding.

Have fun! I would have loved an October wedding, but where we were having it (free :) so no compromise) was outdoors and October would have been an awful time for outdoors in MI.

The weather has sucked this whole week. That's what I was afraid of running into.

I LOVE autumn though :-)

We have a bunch of decisions to make tonight, so I think I will stay quiet and see how FI does with them!  We still need to decide if we are doing the flower toss/Garter toss thing and if so what songs for those.  Whether we're doing a dollar dance (tacky I know!) but his family expects it.  His brother actually warned me not to be upset when FI's two brothers don't dance with me - they intend to dance with HIM.  This shoudl be good!!  I have already spent months on line making up a list of must have songs - So I am going to let him do the rest!

Misma - Autumn is my favorite season.  I am glad we planned an indoor ceremony and reception.  Outdoors would have been wonderful, but in PA you throw the dice with the weather.  Right now they are saying 45 with rain -- UGHHHH!

That's how it is in Michigan too. FYI - you may get what we are getting today and that is rain rain rain. Although I do like the rain in Autumn. And sometimes spring, but rain in Autumn is my favorite rain. Don't ask me why.

It rained the night before on my wedding too. And we did it on Aug 22nd, and the temp barely reached 70. Actually I think it was 68. And to think I was worried about my bm dresses and them being too hot!

I'm sure everything will be beautiful!

Where did the swarm of annoying little Misses ___ Numbers come from?

If you're not old enough to write a complete sentence using the correct homophone ("two" in the sentence "I learned who my real friends were during my wedding two." is not correct), you should not pass go and not collect $200. I like this message board because most of the ladies here are rational, sane, lovely people and it's nice to chit chat and offer advice. What I don't like is feeling like reading a thread is corralling a bunch of 16-year-olds who haven't figured out that real life isn't the mall and text language isn't universally acceptable.

I noticed that yesterday.

I am willing to bet that 2 of the posts (the prego bride one, and the other bm thread) were in the newsletter sent out to all brides to be. That's what happened last summer when the big bm thread blew up. You just click on the link and it takes you straight to that thread.

I don't get those e-mails anymore, but that's what I think happened.

I'm guessing people were bored over the long weekend and logged in for the first time.  But it was a total explosion of Knot silliness.

You're probably right, Misma. I guess it just wouldn't be in my nature to make the mental jump from "I'm going to log in here for the first time" to "everyone on here is nuts and I'm right" despite the former statement.

LOL, Ariel, thanks for the laugh, I needed it.

OMG!! My mother arrives in a week and the house looks like a bomb went off!!  I have so much to do!!

I still have to assemble all the wedding favors, yay!!  I have to figure out a way to get the stupid ribbon to stick to itself and then to the box, and double sided tape did not work.....perhaps a glue gun.

Has anyone else had good/bad dreams about your wedding? I have had 5 already, and they are strange!!!

The great thing is that my fiancee is so supprotive and loving, I am SOOO lucky!!!!
Ok, I'm done for now. Thank You.

I had really weird dreams too. So did my MOH, who was my cousin. She took a lot on herself to help me remember to bring stuff to the wedding, so I think she was stressing a bit too. (Close family.)

Her craziest one was a typical, "I forgot to bring my bm dress, the flower girl's dress (her daughter), the other girls were late etc. Then I looked and you were walking down the aisle with Nana holding onto your arm." (My grandmother's been dead since I was 13.)

That may not seem too weird, but on my wedding day I was getting ready and an old family friend came into our room. She used to be a caretaker for my grandmother when she lived with us.

She came up to me and handed me a card and told me to open it. In the card was an emerald ring that Nana had given to her, and she was saving for me until I married.

That was one of the biggest surprises of my life. Needless to say I was bawling (some great photos out of that lol). I wore the ring the entire day.

It was only after, I think the next day, when my cousin's dream ran through my mind again. I really did walk down the aisle hand in hand with my grandmother.

My vent for the day?  It's effing freezing!!!!!!  The idea of calling for an oil delivery just plunges me into bummerville!

Not to mention, how did all my winter clothes shrink while they were hanging in  my closet this summer?

Have you noticed the one time posters that have started to populate the site again?

It's great, but they all have a theme of despair, and dire help...and then we try to help, and get the guilt trip for making me feel O sad ...

Well I need a laugh -- maybe you do too --- here goes.

What did Pink Panther say when he stepped on an ant?

Scroll over below - text is white VV
Dead ant, dead ant dead ant dead ant dead ant (theme of pink panther

^^)

Cosmo, I'm with you.

I drove to work this AM in the SNOW. (MassPike and Rt 9 West Boston-to-Worcester)

Full on, big flakes, sticking-to-the-grass SNOW.

Don't get me wrong - I love snow. But not in October. Let me have my autumn!

Plus I'm still getting over this pesky head cold (fortunately, no indication that it's flu, but it's annoying just the same).

Do you know why there is snow in the forecast?  B/c we are moving and already gave away our snowblower.  lol.

That being said, we do not have snow up here in southern Maine, thank God, although it is freaking cold and they are predicting a mix of snow and rain. It's been down in the 30s for days!  I am so glad I am moving to DC next week.  The weather when I arrive is supposed to be in the upper 60s.  Sweet!  Cool

Funny you should mention that, ALF. This is copied from my best friend's email response to my gripes about the snow this morning (she lives in Arlington, VA):

Better snow then rain, something we're having a ton of down here. I actually had to turn the heat on yesterday and wear my wool coat today. Feels like I moved back to Boston.

For a minute there this morning, I thought my eyes were deceiving me. But no, there was the frosting of snow on the trees. And I reminded myself why I keep the snow brush/scraper in my trunk year 'round.

I hate the city of Omaha!  It loves to tear up the interstate and all its main streets and then no one can figure out how to get anywhere!

I got myself lost b/c the stupid interstate is all tore up and it is extremely confusing as to which lane is the exit lane. I ended up lost on the interstate!

Would it really be so hard to clearly mark the lane for the exit?

Then god forbid you get on the wrong street b/c you can't get back on the interstate b/c they have the on ramp all torn up or you cannot turn left or right and have to keep going straight for miles.

And you never see construction workers! I am starting to think they are like the tooth fairy and Santa Claus.  You see what they leave behind, but you never really know if they exist.

Amanda, it's the same in Michigan.

And our problem, (one of several) is that for years we did not do anythign about our roads. We do not have toll booths to help fix them, it is all taxes. So now, for the last 10 years, we have been paying the price in construction.

Or they just do stupid things, like take out the Michigan left by my parents house because they said that there was too many accidents there. So now you have to drive past their street a ways, turn around and come back, when where the old one was, you could turn into it and go straight across the road.

The funny thing is that I lived there fromt he time I was 7 until I was 18, and in all that time, I never knew of anyone having an accident there. Not to say there never was one, but if no one in the whole dang subdivision understands that comment and starts a petition, then you would think that there never was a problem in the first place.

Oh, and they said it would take a week. It took 3 months.

And all they did was make it MORE dangerous.

Yeah they said the interestate was set up like it was for "bridge inspection" well the bridge must have been pretty darn crappy b/c it is ten times WORSE now than it was a month ago!

The bad part is this is one of the main ways for people who live in Council Bluffs to get into down town Omaha.

If you can't use 480 then you have to drive clear around to the South Omaha bridge and find your way back to downtown or you would have to drive clear over to Crescent and come across the 1-29 bridge.

I wouldn't have even had to use the stupid exit if that damn semi truck had gone the speed limit!  I would have gotten off on the Dodge exit but NO, I couldn't get in thanks to slow poke Rodriquez!Yell

By the time there was room for me to get in even with speeding I would have had to fly over the wall to land on the ramp!
