We're having our wedding at a B&B and are allowed up to 25 people for the reception to be held there.  We have a couple of relatives who have said they'd like to come, and we need to find out if they actually intend to do so.  They could possibly stay at the B&B (along with us) and we need to know if they'd like to do that...We still haven't sent out our save-the-dates or turned on our wedding website, but the B&B folks need to know the number of guests, we need to know if they are seriously planning to come-- if so, great.  If not, we can bump them for some others who'd like to come and we'd like to invite.  Kind of an A-list B-list dilemma.

Would you call and ask them flat out, or???  How would you handle this with good manners??

Just send them invitations.

Thanks, but we need to know before we send out invitations what their plans are....does that make sense?

If they aren't seriously planning to attend, we will have those invitations available to others who are more likely to attend.

How did a small wedding get complicated so quickly, LOL.??

Why not just pick up a telephone and call and ask those you wish to invite? Im assuming if you're only allowed 25 people, you must be pretty close to them. I dont see where manners would come in with a simple "Hi! We are planning on getting married xx/xx/xxxx in Smalltown. We have limited space, so I need an early head count. Do you think you can make it?"

How early do the B&B people need to know your head count? If you havent even sent out STDs, then Im assuming you must still be fairly far away from your date. I cant see why the B&B would need the information THIS far in advance.

We had more spaces (125 plus wedding party and parents)  but needed to reserve a whole Inn with restaurant (closed for holiday weekend except us) and either a resort motel or 2 B & B's very close, in another state.  And only a 5 month engagement.  So we bit the bullet and called.  Since we have large families, everyone was either close family or friend.

Everyone was very nice about it, gave a definate yes, definate NO, or a few, maybe, depending on something (for 2 couples, childbirth.)  The maybes were 4% of total, so we went with numbers for the yeses plus maybes,  reserved and paid  our deposits.  Final invitations only went to these people, who had all booked rooms by then except the maybes, whom they allowed us to reserve but not pay.

Took all the stress away in July for the October wedding.  25 people, so close, should be very understanding.  Good luck!
