Has anyone used a registry and had success  without outrageous fees? Please recommend some sites

We registered at honeymoonwishes.com.  My niece used it for her wedding and liked it. They charge 7 %.  I liked it because we are not going to a traditional honeymoon place and the site allows me to get creative.

Good Luck

I suggest you NOT use a honeymoon registry.  That way, your guests can just give you cash or checks and there is NO fee or service charge.

They certainly don't offer any benefit over and above good ol' cash!

I gotta emphasize with these that some people just want to give something. They're leary of giving money.  I know at least in our family they are.  I would suggest looking at all of them. We were thinking of using travelersjoy.com, and then we were going to use another that had a service fee.

We haven't decided yet.

We put a few things on a traditional registry to give some guidance for people who just want to purchase something and we did used honeymoonwishes.

They do charge 7% but we set it up so the 7% came off the total and the guest didn't know.

I got a good response from our guests regarding it.  Many said they wished that was available when they got married.

Not sure I understand the whole honeymoon registry. Why not just open a bank account in both your names for a "honeymoon registry"?

We have a honeymoon registry at happyhoneymoons.ca (Canadian site).  You can create a page all about the two of you and your wedding, and you can add pictures and itemize things you'll be doing on your honeymoon.  For example, your guests could choose from:

$225 one night stay in a boutique hotel (and you can put a picture beside it of the hotel with a hyperlink if you want)
$65 bottle of champagne for hotel room
$35 winery tour
$125 dinner for two on the beach

You get the idea.  What really happens is that you get the cash (10 days after your wedding date), but your guests fell like they are actually giving you something instead of just money.

This site charges a flat rate of $9 per transaction - and you can build it in so they don't even know their paying it.

So basically, they are just collecting cash for you, charging $9 per "donation" and they mail you a check that you will get after you return from your honeymoon.

How do you  know that they have accounted for all the gifts that were sent to you.  How do you know that Aunt Ruth gave you $50 and they only credited you with $40.

Sounds like lots of opportunity for lost funds and shady dealings.

If you buy a bridal workbooks wedding planner you get a free honeymoon cruise certificate, which is pretty awesome and worth checking out. It saves you the trouble of setting up a honeymoon registry but you still get an amazing, practically free honeymoon! The workbooks themselves are super useful too. You can flip through a book and them one at http://bridalworkbook.com/
