My fiance and I are also planning our honeymoon in the same area. A coworker of mine (who's family is from Mexico) told us that Playa del Carmen is one of THE most beautiful areas in Mexico.

we go every year to playa del carmen for my work as a retreat. last year we went on a tour of an ancient mayan city, went swimming with the dolphins and went fishing. they have so many activities but the beaches are the best and most of the places there are all inclusive so you can have the drinks brought to you on the beach. if you are going to playa del carmen and like bars go to the Tequila Barrell. it is such a fun experience. hope this helps.

I stayed at the Palace resorts a few years ago and I loved it. Keep in mind that I was in my late teens so the idea of unlimited free booze was a huge selling point for me.

All in all is was a nice place and a good time.

We went to Cancun for our honeymoon a few weeks ago and did not care much for our resort - we were recommended the Palace by a number of people for our next visit.
