Hi everyone! Okay well I originally thought it would be a good idea to get the minister that was a family friend for a long time (however we havnt seen him in years) to do the wedding to add that 'something special' and not just anyone feel.  However after our first meeting on skype with him and my FI, it didnt go so well because we dont really look at things the same and it was more of a lecture and sort of rude than I'd wanted.  Since then I have found someone else whom I am extrememly happy with to do the wedding!!  HOWEVER NOW- I face having to let the other minister know why we havnt bought his plane tickets yet and that we decided not to use him.  ANY advice on this topic would be greatly appreciated because I Have to do this ASAP! THanks girls!

Def do this right now! He needs to know that he is not a part of the wedding, he may be saying no to other stuff going on that day. Send him a message or call him on the phone, and tell him that you appreciate that he was willing to help you, but you have decided to go with someone who will do the ceremony more in your style (aka, respect you two, not lecture you two), and who is close by and able to communicate in person etc.

I agree with TheGaffer.  Let him know right away.  Just tell him you have found someone that is a better fit for the type of ceremony you are expecting.  You can also say you want to eliminate any potential problems involving travel.

Be honest. Just say that from your original discussion, you felt that your ideas for the ceremony and his did not match and you will be using someone else. Thank him for his time and if he is a true professional that should be the end of the discussion.

OMG, My friend went through something similar, but the priest wouldn't marry them.  I couldn't believe it.  It all worked out for the best.

Oh, firing the minister is easy! You just tell him thanks, but you've got someone closer to do the job, but thanks anyway! Keep a smile on your face and there's nothing he can say. Just be glad he didn't refuse to marry you, then your dad decided that it was his 'honor bound duty' to beat the crap out of him at the church homecoming the next Sunday like my Dad did...yes, the minister got a black eye, my uncle performed the ceremony for me, and 6 years later I was divorced! I should have seen the signs! LOL
However, 22 years later, I am marrying the man of my dreams! Just look at it this way, you're saving the cost of a roundtrip plane trip!

Bless you both!
Beth
